The Seamless Web Editor Project

~Seaweed~ is a piece of software which enables people to edit websites without having to switch to an editor to update or add new content. Just like any other editor, ~Seaweed~ can be integrated into any type of Content Management System.

~Seaweed~ is unique because there is no separation between "edit mode" and "view mode"; you just edit the page at real-time.

~Seaweed~ is in heavy development and will be released open source in early 2010. We are currently performing user tests for research purposes. From the user tests we hope to identify / address any major flaws in the design, and to help iron out any bugs. If you would like to help by participating go here.

Explanations can only go so far, a screencast is coming soon... For now you can play with our prototype release.

Benefits of using ~Seaweed~ over other Editors

  • Users do not need to invest in any time in switching to an editor to update content.
  • Users do not need to interchange between the editor and published result when concerned with layout / aesthetics.
  • ~Seaweed~ is very light-weight - It is written entirely in JavaScript and compacts into a single script.
  • Very flexible - any element can be made editable.
  • Unobtrusive design - easy to integrate.
